A Christmas Carol read by The London Storyteller (Audio Book)

In late November of 2024, I headed up to a remote corner of Norfolk to undertake an experiment in the hope to record something that I might share with guests past, present and future for fun.

I also wanted to see if a passable audio book could be recorded using some quite compact equipment I took with me rather than the more substantial microphones that I use for music recording and to get a measure for how one should approach the delivery of reading and capturing a story, the one in question of course being that seasonal evergreen by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol.

It is a little short of four hours in length, so I venture perfect for a transatlantic flight or a long drive home for Christmas. If I fail to captivate, then I hope that this recording may have a sedative effect upon restless children squabbling over seats or over caffeinated adults short on sleep but desperate for forty winks before the celebratory onslaught of the festive season.

I was delighted to find that the single day that this was recorded in opened for me a whole new understanding and appreciation of Dickens’s great Christmas classic. It was a pleasure. I can’t attest to this being the most perfect recording of his work but it was fun to produce, a good learning process and I’m sure as one finds with all these things that whatever follows next (I do rather fancy dabbling with Sherlock Holmes) will likely be a step forward from this.
