Delving deep into a series of hidden histories through the eyes of a writer, a diarist and a painter; the London’s Historical Underbelly tour explores the finest city on earth through its more interesting though less trodden tales.
Winding its way through the historic City of London and assorted back streets, this privately guided tour refers to great though perhaps unlikely storytellers from the city’s past including Dr Samuel Johnson, Samuel Pepys and William Hogarth.
We explore poverty, punishment, gin crazes, plague, fire and grave robbers; all washed down with a refreshing ale or two at truly historic London pubs with links back to Elizabeth I and our storytelling greats themselves.
This tour was inspired by a bespoke commission enjoyed so much by our guests that The London Storyteller decided to present it here for all of our clients to enjoy.
It explores the extraodinary and the every day through the eyes of the people who shaped, recorded and lived it.
Starting at Tower Hill and working its way over to Covent Garden, the tour usually runs to four hours to allow time in the pub but can be truncated or indeed extended upon request to suit your group.

Darker Side of History
This tour explores locations that are off the traditional tourist trail including themes, lives and stories both familiar and baffling to modern day perspectives. It delves into some of the darker tales from the city's history including plague, fire, war, grave robbing and exectutions.
Historic Pubs
This tour includes a visit to at least one of London's historic pubs and because it is a private tour, we can also adapt along the way if you'd like to spend more time with glass in hand exploring stories than on foot as part of our itinerary.
Pick Up & Drop Off
Starting at Tower HIll in the heart of the City of Westminster and ending at Covent Graden; we can provide pick up and drop offs for our guests upon request and by prior arrangement.

This tour begins outside Tower Hill Station next to the Tower Hill Tram foodstall.
